Dear friends, we are very happy to invite you to our 1st Kirtan @ the Salisbury centre this year. Start the new year with the positive vibrations of Kirtan! Come to experience an evening of live music and exotic drumming. The Kirtan will be followed by delicious Vegan meal! :)
Kirtan is a call-and-response yogic practice of chanting from the heart, sung with wonderful melodies ranging from meditative to ecstatic. It requires no background or training, and is easily learnt. Dropping down out of our busy minds, we settle our focus in the heart centre, where, in all of us there is love, compassion and beauty; and we use our voices to express that love.
To the accompaniment of instruments we will sing simple Sanskrit Mantras (chants in a powerful ancient language) that have a profoundly healing effect on our subconscious and our energetic system. You can join in singing, dancing, clapping or simply basking in the sound. Kirtan is fun, it feels good, and brings one into a place of peace, well-being and blissful joy.
Even if you don't want to sing just being in the room and listening to the sounds will help to take you in a meditative zone. The effects of Kirtan are felt on the more subtle levels of consciousness as the atmosphere and vibrations in the room and surroundings are heightened.
No yoga or singing experience necessary.
